Mexico
Location
Mexico is located in the southern part of North America, bordered by the Pacific Ocean in the west and south, the Gulf of Mexico to the east and Belize, Guatemala and the Caribbean Sea to the south east.
Geography
The geographical coordinates are 23 00 N, 102 00 W. The total area is approximately 1,972,550 sq. km, which includes around 6,000 sq. km of islands in the surrounding waters.
Mexico is slightly less smaller than three times the size of Texas and consists of an approximate 9,330 km coastline, with approx. 7,338 km’s bordering the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of California, whilst the remaining 2,805 km’s border the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
Climate
In terms of climate, Mexico has both temperate and tropical areas. It also has wet and dry seasons in most parts.
Terrain
The terrain in this country includes high, rugged mountains along with low coastal plains, high plateaus and desert. The lowest point is the lake Laguna Salada with the highest point being the volcano Pico de Orizaba, standing at approx. 5,160m.
Resources
Mexico has a range of natural resources which include timber, natural gas, petroleum, zinc, silver, copper, gold and lead.
The land is allocated out into 12% arable land, 1% permanent crops, 39% permanent pastures, 26% forests and woodlands and 22% other.
