Parana Curitiba – Ilha do Mel

Day 1 Curitiba

Arrive in Curitiba.  You will be met on arrival and commence a tour of Curitiba.

Commence a tour of the city, including its unique Botanical Gardens; Opened in 1991, Curitiba's trademark botanical garden was created in the style of French gardens.  In the midst of fountains, waterfalls and lakes, the main greenhouse of 458 m² shelters plants, characteristic of tropical regions.  It rolls out its carpet of flowers to the visitor’s right at the entrance, which occupies 240.000 m² in area.  The principal greenhouse, designed in an Art Nouveau style, constructed of a modern metallic structure, resembles the mid-19th century Crystal Palace in London. The Botanic Museum, which provides a national reference collection of native flora, attracts researchers from all over the world. It includes many botanic species from the moist Atlantic Forests of eastern Brazil.

Day 2 Curitiba-Serra Madre – Ilha do Mel  (B)

Transfer to the railway station.  Join the Serra Madre Express.

Travel along 110km of a railroad with 125 years of history through the largest preserved area of Brazil’s Atlantic forest.  The railway winds its way through some of the most rugged and striking territory, Brazil has to offer – a coastal mountain range covered by dense tropical rainforest to Morretes.  The city of Morretes was founded in 1721.  It is in the middle of the mountain range of Paraná, between the capital and the coast.  After a walking tour around Morretes, transfer across  to Ilha do Mel (Island of Honey) one of Brazil’s most spectacular islands, with a  curvaceous outline, pristine beaches, diverse ecosystems and no cars at all!  

Stay the night in a lovely pousada.

Day 3 Ilha do Mel (B)

Enjoy a day to explore the island and its beautiful beaches.

Day 4 Ilha do Mel - Curitiba (B)

Transfer by boat across to Pontal do Sul by boat.  Transfer to Curitiba by van.

Inclusions:

Accommodation in  all rooms with private facilities - 1 night Sao Paulo, 3 nights in Pantanal, local service charges & hotel taxes, transfers and tours as specified in the itinerary accompanied by local English speaking guides on a seat in coach basis, meals as specified each day (B=Breakfast, L=lunch, D=Dinner)
